Time to turn the tables

Rockad (say ro-KAHD) is Swedish for castling: the one chess move where the king and a rook move together and swap sides.

Good software fails every day, often for one reason: the people who built it had no network, no sales team and nobody to market it. Meanwhile, buyers end up with whatever shouts loudest, or whatever they already knew.

We think that's backwards. Rockad starts from your problem. You say what's getting in your way, and we show you the products that solve exactly that, and the people who built them. Nobody can pay to be placed higher.

That gives every product an honest chance to be found, and you a better basis for your choice.

The goal: when you realise you need a piece of software, Rockad is where you look first.

We've just opened, so the catalog is still small. Some Listings are written by Rockad from the Product's own site, marked “Not confirmed by the Maker”, until the people behind them Claim them.

How Rockad decides what you see

Built something?

List your product

Rockad in your AI assistant

Rockad is an MCP server too. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Codex or any other assistant that speaks the Model Context Protocol, and it can search Rockad by the problem you describe, and read a Listing, from inside your conversation. No account, no key.

What you get

Two tools, read-only:

  • search_by_need: the assistant sends what's in your way, in your words, and gets Rockad's matching Listings, best match first, each with the address of its Listing page to cite, the Problem it matched, who makes it, and whether the Maker has confirmed the Listing. It can pass the site's filters too: price, platform, who it's for, Indie only, and the country you're in.
  • get_listing: the whole Listing, including the Product's own website.

The address of the server is the only thing to set up:

https://rockad.io/mcp

Connect your assistant

Claude (web and desktop)

In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors, click + Add and then Add custom connector. Name it Rockad, paste the address above and click Continue. Under Authentication choose No sign in, then Add. Custom connectors are there on every plan, Free included; on a Team or Enterprise plan an owner adds them under Organization settings.

In a chat, click + at the lower left, open Connectors and turn Rockad on. Then ask away: “Find me something for invoicing my hours, for a one-person company in Sweden.”

Claude Code

In the terminal, once:

claude mcp add --transport http rockad --scope user https://rockad.io/mcp

--scope user makes it yours in every project; leave it out for the current project only, or use --scope project to share it with the team through the project's .mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rockad": { "type": "http", "url": "https://rockad.io/mcp" }
  }
}

ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds MCP servers as plugins. Go to Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), click + and Add custom MCP server. Give it a name and a description, and under Connection enter the address above, with its /mcp. Rockad asks for no sign-in. Confirm the risk warning with I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. Whether you can add custom servers depends on your account or workspace's policies.

In the ChatGPT desktop app, it is Settings → MCP servers → Add server, choosing Streamable HTTP and the address above.

Cursor

Add Rockad to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (for you) or the project's .cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rockad": { "url": "https://rockad.io/mcp" }
  }
}

Cursor's own guide (opens in a new tab)

VS Code

Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP and paste the address above; or write it into the project's .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "rockad": { "type": "http", "url": "https://rockad.io/mcp" }
  }
}

VS Code's own guide (opens in a new tab)

Codex CLI

codex mcp add rockad --url https://rockad.io/mcp

Or in ~/.codex/config.toml:

[mcp_servers.rockad]
url = "https://rockad.io/mcp"

Other clients

Rockad speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP at the address above, with no authentication, so any client that takes a remote server's URL can use it. Where the setting lives:

  • Gemini CLI: gemini mcp add --transport http rockad https://rockad.io/mcp, or httpUrl under mcpServers in ~/.gemini/settings.json.
  • JetBrains AI Assistant: Settings → Tools → AI Assistant → Model Context Protocol, with url under mcpServers.
  • Zed: context_servers in its settings, with url.
  • Windsurf (Devin Desktop): serverUrl under mcpServers in its mcp_config.json.

A client that can only start servers on your own machine (stdio) can reach Rockad through mcp-remote:

npx -y mcp-remote https://rockad.io/mcp --transport http-only

The same rules as the site

  • An assistant gets the same Listings in the same order as the site. Nothing a Maker pays for changes it, and the assistant can't either: it can only read what Rockad answers. See what AI does, and what it doesn't.
  • A search from an assistant is recorded like one from the site: the words, the filters, the results and when, with nothing about who. Your assistant never sends Rockad your name or account. See Privacy.
  • Each client may make 60 requests a minute; more get a 429 until the minute is over.
